Harvest School provides education to a remote area of Haiti where no other local schools exist. 2016 Hurricane Matthew decimated these villages, barreling over their mountains as a Category 5 storm. We began our agriculture ministries to help them rebuild their lives and homes. As the partnership began, the farmers brought to us a pressing need: they wanted their children to be able to attend school, but the nearest school was several villages away and too dangerous a walk for little ones. Some families were sending their children to live with relatives or other families in the city so that they could attend school. This separation from family can be detrimental to a child, and in Haiti often results in a modern-day slavery issue called “restaveks”. To keep children with their families and safe from harm, it was crucial to have a local school.
God opened the door for our ministry to build and operate a Christian primary school in a rural area of Haiti where voodoo is the most prominent religion. Every day, Harvest School students learn about the love and power of Jesus. Most of our students are the first generation of their families to learn to read and write, which also makes them the first generation to read God’s Word.
We are committed to providing quality, Christian education to these remote villages because we know these families and children are precious in His sight. Since our work here first began, we have prayed Matthew 5:14 over them,” that they would be like a city on a hill, shining for His glory.” It is exciting to see the transformation happen right before our eyes.
You can help support the dream of Harvest School by sponsoring a child or donating to further the construction and development of a special place, preparing bright young minds to be future leaders of Haiti.
