The goal of HFAP is to empower Haitians to provide for themselves. One of the most tragic and common life stories women tell us, is how they suffer each day watching their children starve because they are too poor to feed them. HFAP’s program, Gift of Hope, assists women in bringing their malnourished children back to health through our HOPE House ministry and journal making classes. read more
Hope House
HFAP has a baby home for malnourished infants and young children ages 0-3. These precious little ones are brought to us on a regular basis at clinics, food distributions, and visits to the slums. Many times mothers bring us their children because they cannot afford to feed them. By the time the mother gives the child up, sometimes it is too late to help. These women love their children so much, they do not want to give them away, but they cannot afford to keep them alive. read more
Les Bours School
Cite Soleil is the poorest place in the Western Hemisphere. For years the United Nations has labeled it the most dangerous place on earth. HFAP has various projects to help the people who are struggling to survive in this slum. Our first project was building a school for the children, Les Bours School of Hope. There was no other school in the area for them to attend. Their parents did not have access to education, and so they are not able to teach anything to their children. The poverty-stricken conditions in Cite Soleil will never change unless the children are educated to do so. Education is the key for survival and change! These children are the future of Haiti. Our students now go home and read to their parents! read more
Sponsor-A-Child
HFAP is able to offer free education to our students by matching each child with a sponsor in the states. For $30 a month a sponsor can provide education, clothes, food, and medical attention to a child in need. Our children consider their sponsors to be their parents, and they are so thankful for the opportunity to go to school!
If you are interested in sponsoring a child please email your address and contact information to information@haitipoverty.com . You may add if you prefer to sponsor a specific age or gender. We will send you a picture of a child and an informational packet in the mail. read more
Clinic
of Hope
HFAP runs a small clinic called
the Clinic of Hope near Cite Soleil. The primary
goal of our clinic is to care for the 230 students
at Les Bours school and their families. We
frequently bring teams of medical professionals to
run free clinics for the community of Les Bours and
the slum of Cite Soleil. Most of our patients have
never been to a doctor before because they are
afraid of the costs they might incur. This past year
has been especially hard on the health of our
Haitian friends. read more
Food Foundation
Haiti Foundation Against Poverty
has opened a food foundation which distributes
food to the most needy in the community:
typically the: elderly and women with many
children. Women in Haiti have on average
6.5 children in their lifetime and are only
able to feed one past the age of 5. The
rest are left to die or put in orphanages.
This is just one example why the food distribution
program is so needed. Each family is given
a bag of rice, a bag of meal, and a bottle
of oil. This will feed the family for 2
weeks.
The food foundation is currently
distributing food in Lilavios and Cite Soleil,
as well as other cities when natural disasters
occur. Ways You can Help: Provide a monetary
donation to be sent down to feed the hungry
by going to our Donate link above!
